About the Artist-

Born in Langley, British Columbia, James Grimshaw is a West Coast artist residing on Vancouver Island. Spending much time: travelling Australasia, and within the mountains of the Sea to Sky corridor, he has completed his Diploma of illustration in Victoria, BC.  His work represents the connection of humans to the natural world, and how this connection is important to contemplate in our daily lives. Now working in the field of Silkscreen Printing, he has taken his illustrative line drawings into the serigraph medium. Fascinated by: travel; culture; nature and the mind, James’ artwork reflects his experiences and continues to grow as he does.

James has worked, doing various portraits, illustrations and commissioned artworks since high school, and has developed his artistic persona, under Grim Studio. James seeks to promote mindfulness within his artwork, representing landscapes and the very creatures within them, to design an impactful image.

A series of strategically timed linework, hatching and stippling to create a cohesive; yet contrasted image. I am grateful for the opportunity to create artwork and share my ideas with the world - within creations of inks, oils and pigments: Blocking in shapes, I proceed to build layers of tonal variation to depict images of connections with nature. I am representing the visual landscapes and animals within our seas and forests on Vancouver Island.

Seeking to promote connectivity and creativity. Our connections: with the nature of our human connection with the beautiful environment around us; invoking one to wonder more, and wander more.
